Woman Barters Pomelos to Get Medicine for Mom with Parkinson’s

A woman barters some pomelos from their yard to get medicine for her mom with Parkinson’s. Their sad plight has gone viral, with a number of netizens offering to help out by sending them extra medicines or money to buy some.

The story was also featured on Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (One at Heart, Jessica Soho), with Sheila (Facebook account Belonio Sheing) from Bacolod City, central Philippines, sharing how she feels so sad that she can’t even provide for her mother’s medicines because they really had no money at all.

Walang-wala na kami. Hindi ko mabigyan ng gamot o mapa-check up man lang si Nanay. Kaya naisip kong i-barter ‘yung pomelo sa bakuran namin. Sobrang sakit. Kasi nu’ng okay pa si Nanay, lahat nabibigay niya sa akin,” Sheila told the KMJS crew.

Nag-sacrifice siya para matustusan ang pag-aaral ko. Pero ngayong ganito ang kanyang kondisyon, hindi ko mabigay sa kanya ‘yung kailangan niya. Ang mga pomelo na lang sa puno ang inaasahan namin para mabilhan namin siya ng gamot.

But netizens are happy that though she did not have money, she did not leave her mom, Nanay Nenita. Sheila made sure to take care of her sick mother.

As her medicines have run out, Sheila swallowed her pride and asked netizens if they are willing to barter with their pomelos so her mom could still receive her treatment.

A number of netizens had already offered to send them the medicines prescribed to their late family members. Many also encouraged her to hold on and also take care of herself so she could provide her mother the best care she could, knowing that the days ahead will be difficult for them both…
