A lot of kids have plenty of gadgets these days – and they spend a lot of time playing on these stuff, sometimes to the point of having these affect their grades in school.
British teenager Jaden Ashman was among those who got bad grades because he spent hours playing on his Xbox. One day, his mother Lisa Dallman got so angry about his failing marks that she took away his Xbox and threw it out! Ouch.
But a gamer through and through, he defied his mother and began to play Fortnite on his computer. And while we don’t condone going against your mom and doing this behind her back, Lisa would soon have a change of heart when she realized that Jaden was serious in building a career in e-sports.

When Lisa learned that Jaden (playing as “Wolfiez”) was among the chosen 100 players who would compete in the Fortnite World Cup, she realized her son has found his niche. With over 250 million people actually playing this game worldwide and Jaden being among the top contenders for the first World Cup really changed Lisa’s mind.
“Me and my mum, we clash quite a lot. Like, she didn’t understand how it worked, so she thought that I was spending eight hours a day in my room just wasting my time,” Jaden revealed.
“So now that I’ve proved to her that I can do stuff, I’m really happy.”

Jaden and his Dutch partner Dave Jong (playing as “Rojo”) won second place in the Fortnite World Cup duos edition with 47 points. They were just a few points behind the 51 scored by champions Norwegian Emil Bergquist Pedersen and Austrian David W, playing as “Nyhrox” and “Aqua”, respectively.
Jaden and Dave won $2.25 million while the champions took home $3 million!
If Lisa had her way, Jaden wouldn’t have entered the World Cup but he would have missed out on the big win!

“If I’m honest with you I’ve been quite against him gaming. I’ve been more pushing him to his schoolwork,” Lisa said. “I’ve actually thrown an XBox out, snapped a headset, we’ve had a nightmare.”
But after he was chosen to be among the 100 choice contestants to the Fortnite World Cup, she completely supported him. She even took time off from work to accompany him to New York in the US where the World Cup was held.
So, what would the teen use his money for?
“I think Jaden’s not really a materialistic person. He will have a lifetime supply of Uber Eats, and I think that will do him, to be fair,” Lisa mused. “Just sitting there playing video games and eating takeaways, Jaden would be in his element.”
But many people had no idea that Jaden had surprised a lot of people with the win. Unlike many of the World Cup contenders, he’s relatively unknown in the Fortnite world and only has a few thousand followers on his gaming page. Yet he shook up the Fortnite community and surprised them with this win…
