Teacher Praised for Carrying Wheelchair-Bound Student So She Wouldn’t Miss Field Trip to Falls

Because she’s born with spina bifida, a condition that left her wheelchair-bound for life, 10-year-old Ryan Neighbors from Louisville, Ohio, often missed many of her school’s field trips and outdoor activities.

When the school announced that they will be having another field trip to the Falls of Ohio, Ryan’s mom Shelly King knew that her daughter would surely be skipping another trip because her wheelchair can’t be pushed at the many rocky areas in the park leading to the falls.

But for the first time, the Tully Elementary School pupil was able to join after a teacher offered to take her on his back throughout the duration of the trip!

Ryan found an angel in Jim Freeman, a kindhearted teacher who offered to take her to the trip and carry her around his back so she could still learn and explore along with her classmates.

An ecstatic Shelly shared the story on her Facebook account, posting some photos of Ryan with Teacher Jim.

If I haven’t bragged on my kids school enough – well, listen to this.

They are going on a field trip to Falls Of The Ohio today. Obviously, NOT accessible. I was preparing for an “alternate field trip day” when a male teacher reached out and said “I’m happy to tote her around on the falls all day!”

She is sooooo excited to do this independent from me. Omg MELT MY HEART.

Thank you Christie Pile for giving me these back pack carriers, making this possible for Ryan. I CANT wait for pics today.

We are sooooo blessed to have an ENTIRE school that is so compassionate and empathetic and NEVER make her feel left out.

*** These are the things that the news should be talking about. These beautiful people should be shared with the world, to see and inspire. If you come across this post please share this post, let’s make love go viral***

It is quite obvious from Ryan’s big smile that she’s having the best time in her life! For the first time, she was able to participate in the school activity with her classmates – and it’s the first time she gets to enjoy the outdoors this much. Teacher Jim is truly an angel!
