Tatay Juanito Reyes, 51 years old, goes around town to scavenge through other people’s trash bins to find stuff he could still at the junk shop, but for Junnel Gemida, he’s truly proud to have this ‘basurero’ (scavenger) as dad!

As he graduates from college, Junnel honored his father’s sacrifices and shared his story on Facebook where it went viral.

Flex ko lang tatay ko kahit basurero siya napagraduate niya ako,” Junnel wrote.

It turned out that Tatay Juanito has been doing this for over 13 years. It might not be an easy job, but this father was willing to do anything to send his two children to school.

According to Tatay Juanito, he wasn’t always a scavenger. In fact, he had a good job as family driver; however, his eyesight would soon fail him. There were even times when he had to stop the car because he could no longer see the vehicles in front.

Fearing that he might cause an accident, Tatay Juanito quit his job. Without other means to support his family, he became a scavenger. It was a hard, messy job, but it was also noble; and he was happy that he could still support his family in an honest way.

His right eye could only see light, but Tatay Juanito began to roam the streets to seek for items he could still sell in junk shops. With the help of his wife, Conrada Gemida, who also helped clean houses to earn some money, the two managed to send their children to school.
