Saan aabot ang Php5 mo?
So, how far can your Php5 really go? For many, not much. It could not even buy a pack of food for lunch – but that’s in most places because there’s this store in Meycauayan, Bulacan where you can buy a lot of food with just Php5!
At Nanay Mel’s sidewalk carinderia, anyone could enjoy a serving of kare-kare, tinolang manok, menudo, ham, bopis, or some other viand at just Php5 each.
Knowing that many of her buyers are students who don’t have much baon or some workers on a budget who need a pack of meal they can bring to their workplace, Nanay Mel puts her rice inside ready-to-go packs that still has space for viand. With just Php10, you can already have a full meal from Nanay Mel’s kitchen!
Well, actually, Php5 can give you a full meal because she also sells her own version of ‘chao fan’ fried rice at that price, with a cup of rice and some tidbits of hotdogs.
Perfect for poor students and anyone on a budget, really, Nanay Mel’s food are all so affordable and delicious that her store is a popular choice.
In an interview with Julius Babao, Nanay Mel explained that she sells her food at very cheap prices so that she could also help many poor students who only have Php5 as baon. If they bring rice, they already have a pack of viand to eat at Php5 – and they will never be hungry in school.
But if you think that’s already quite admirable, you will be amazed that Nanay Mel also sells other food items at just Php1 for those who have smaller baons! Students could already enjoy yummy hotdog slices, kikiam, fish balls, and even cheese sticks for just Php1 each.
According to Nanay Mel, even if she is poor, she also wants to help out; that’s why she sells these cheap food to make that students don’t have to be hungry in school even with just a small baon… Impressive, right?
