For years, Gemelie Martin worked hard in Hong Kong and was able to save a lot of money from her hard work but in just a few minutes, she lost over Php300k to a woman she had only met at the airport.
The overseas Filipino worker (OFW) angrily lashed out at the woman when the latter was apprehended.
She shared that at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the woman befriended her while she was waiting at Terminal 3.
The woman who was identified as Juvy Macalalad Zamora of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.
Somehow, Zamora was able to convince Martin to withdraw from her bank account even if they had only known each other at the airport just a few minutes before.
At the time, Martin already had HK $10,000 in her bag plus a few thousand pesos but by the time she finished talking with Zamora, she had over Php270,000 in cash plus the Hong Kong dollars. She didn’t really think there was something wrong with the situation and continued talking with the stranger.
Some minutes later, the OFW went to the toilet. But she left the bag full of money with Zamora who disappeared once she was inside the toilet stall.
Martin quickly sought help from airport authorities to help catch Zamora but though the woman was apprehended some minutes later, only Php65,000 was recovered in her possession. She would not admit where the rest of the money went but she had surely passed it on to other members of the group as people like her often do not work alone. The OFW is intent on filing charges against the woman, saying she had spent years working abroad to save all that money but the woman had taken her hard-earned cash in just a matter of minutes!
