Canadian Singer Michael Bublé fulfills his grandpa’s last wish, giving away the old man’s house to his Pinay caregiver. But Michael didn’t just follow the old man’s wish; he also made sure to renovate the house and update it to a sophisticated, modern home!
The house was built by Michael’s grandfather, Demetrio, in the 1970s. The old man has lived there for decades but as he grew older, he told Michael that he wants to give it to his Filipina caregiver, Minette, so she wouldn’t have to worry about rent again.
Minette has been with the family for 8 years, caring for Michael’s grandparents and eventually becoming their best friend, even as family.
“Minette doesn’t keep any of the money that she makes. She’s got a lot of family in the Philippines and she takes that money and she sends it all back,” Michael shared.
“Minette is this really compassionate, kind, empathetic human being with a great sense of humor, a great zest for life, who sort of never did anything for herself. She became family almost instantly. I can only imagine what it’s going to mean to her.”
To fulfill his grandfather’s wish, Michael sought the help of “Celebrity IOU”, a show wherein Hollywood stars give back to the people who have made an impact in their lives. Together with together with Drew and Jonathan Scott, Michael had his grandfather’s house updated.
“I think my grandpa would be thrilled knowing that we could maybe lessen the burden a little bit in allowing Minette to continue helping her family without it being so hard on her,” Michael added.
Michael admitted that the house meant so much to him, yet he also wanted to honor his grandfather’s wish by giving it to Minette.
“The greatest moments of my life happened here. The songs I learned and the style of music I fell in love with, they all happened here,” he explained.
As for Minette, she couldn’t believe she would inherit her late employer’s house!
“It is so much, really, really so much. I have no words right now. It hasn’t sunk in yet. It’s beautiful, beautiful,” she said, with tears in her eyes.
