Man Donates Kidney to Love of His Life, Later Gets Turned Down When He Offered Marriage

A man who promised to do anything and everything to the woman he loves actually donated his kidney to her when she got sick; but when he later offered her marriage, she turned down his proposal.

Simon Louis met Mary Emmanuelle back in the mid-90s at a club in London. For Simon, it was love at first sight. At first, Mary thought she was in love with him, too, but after sharing a kiss, she realized that they are only meant to be friends.

Still, Simon continued to love Mary even though she was honest in telling him she could not love him back. For Mary, nothing was more important than taking care of her then 8-year-old son Dwayne. She focused on her son and didn’t have time for love; but Simon remained a steadfast suitor.

Years later, 21-year-old Dwayne discovered his mom on the floor at their house. She had lost consciousness. He rushed her to the ER where they learned that she had end-stage kidney problem. Only a transplant could save her life, but it was a huge challenge to find a donor because she had a rare blood type, B-negative.

Not wanting to see the love of his life gone, Simon offered to donate his kidney. Despite Mary’s blood type being rare, it turned out she matched with Simon! This noble guy readily offered his kidney, without asking for anything in return; she accepted.

Shortly after both underwent the successful procedures necessary for the transplant, Simon proposed but Mary turned him down. For Mary, their friendship was valuable; she didn’t want to ruin it by marrying Simon even if she doesn’t love him.

While some think she’s ungrateful, many also lauded her decision. Just because Simon gave her a kidney, it doesn’t mean she should marry him! As for Simon, he felt sad about the repeated rejection but realized Mary was right – their friendship mattered more than the possibility of a failed marriage.

I offered her my heart but I had to settle for giving her my kidney. Whatever happens, I’ll never regret giving her the gift of life,” he explained.
