A guy who sent his girlfriend to college feels that he ‘graduated’ again now that his beloved has completed her 4-year course!
Catherine Bascon was only able to complete a 2-year computer course because her parents could not afford to send her to college. She tried to find a good job with those credentials, but quickly learned that most companies seek higher qualifications if she wanted a good-paying job.
Things also grew harder for Catherine after her parents broke up. She had to be the breadwinner in the family, supporting the needs of her mother and three siblings. So, even if she already had a job, she still could not spare money to go back to school to complete a 4-year course.
That’s when her boyfriend, Jeffrey Oyando, stepped in. He offered to send her to college without asking for anything in return.
A graduate of Information Technology, Jeffrey works as Senior Information Technology Analyst. He understood her struggles. As her boyfriend, he decided to help out but did not ask for anything in return or made her think that she’s bound to him for life, just because of ‘utang na loob’.
“Never kong inisip yung mga ganong bagay. Sinabi ko sa kanya na ‘kapag pinag-aral kita, kung ano man mangyari, kung mag-break man tayo, ‘di ako yung tipo ng tao na naniningil. Kung tutulong ako, tutulong ako nang maluwag,” he explained.
Jeffrey paid for Catherine’s tuition fees and also shouldered her allowances as well as other needs in school. Meanwhile, Catherine juggled time on her studies with her job as freelancer, but the money she earns at her job goes to her family.
When Catherine finally graduated, Jeffrey felt so proud and happy for her! He also felt that he ‘graduated’ again.
Sobrang sarap sa pakiramdam,” he added.
Catherine is now training as an Application Developer.
Many netizens are hoping that the relationship would truly work out and that the two will always be in love with other, not just staying together due to ‘utang na loob’.
