Just last week, TV host and actress Ruby Rodriguez fended off fake news of her elder sister’s passing. But on March 26, Ruby posted the sad news that Dr. Salvacion “Sally” Rodriguez-Gatchalian has succumbed to COVID-19
The president of the Philippine Pediatric Society, Dr. Sally also worked as Assst. Director of the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Muntinlupa, known for being the testing center of patients suspected of COVID-19.
But being in the frontlines exposed Dr. Sally to the virus.
Last March 21, Ruby had to speak up on Twitter after so many people thought she had already lost her sister. It broke the actress’ heart to receive so many messages of condolences from well-meaning friends who received the fake news.
“I have been quiet all this time about Dr Sally Gatchalian status. Yes she is my sister. Yes she is confined. Yes we all are praying and scared. But when Fake News spreads and people texting me Condolences. I Ask Please She is fighting! She is weak but stable. Please 🙏🏼🙏🏼,” Ruby tweeted.
But just a few days later, Ruby announced the sad news of her sister’s passing.
“As of 6am my sister Dr Sally Gatchalian who fought really hard, Has Joined our Lord God and creator. We her family Thank you all sincerely for Praying with us. Stay Safe and keep on praying,” the actress announced.
It is with a heavy heart that netizens offered their condolences. This time, though, it was for real.
But Ruby posted that though they are mourning her passing, the family chooses to remember their sister in a positive way as they recall the happy moments they had with each other.
“My sister, Manang Sally, this is our Christmas 2019 family picture. Finally we’re complete. We will only remember you with Happy memories, laughing and sleeping, your johnson outfits and all, how u love bling bling, your Kuaff hair everday, your Kdrama addiction (u got me hooked up too). I will make u kwento what I have seen last, our Sunday lunches, our “bonding trips” that you and I only do (other siblings kasi nasa US).
Lots of happy and fond memories! I love you so much my big sister❤️❤️❤️ smile say hi to Mom Dad and manong robert. Be at peace do not worry about us anymore. Have fun in heaven! Love you so much!!!”
The president of the Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines, Dr. Rustico Jimenez, announced that Dr. Sally is the ninth fallen doctor amid this health emergency.
“Pang-siyam na po si Doktora Sally,” Dr. Rustico said.
