He might be in jail and unable to go out to visit his family, but one person deprived of liberty (PDL) still tries his best to help his 5-year-old daughter with her lessons in school!
Thanks technology and the e-dalaw (online visitation) privilege given by san Juan City Jail in San Juan City, Metro Manila, a 33-year-old PDL named Tom gets the chance to teach his daughter despite him being in jail.
Because the e-dalaw privilege is only for 5 minutes and PDLs are not allowed to have cellphones inside the jail, Tom maximizes the time by preparing visual aids ahead of time. Seeing his dedication, the jail officers decided to provide him with school supplies so he can create these visual aids for his daughter.
“Araw-araw gumagawa siya ng visual aid at nag-drawing para maturuan ang anak niya kahit nakakulong siya,” San Juan City Jail Warden JM Sabeniano explained.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, jail visitation has been suspended across the country. Thus, Tom’s wife and daughter can’t also visit him in jail. But the e-dalaw allows him to teach his daughter, Rey Ann. Acknowledging that 5 minutes of e-dalaw is really not enough to be with his daughter, Tom promised Rey Ann that he would make up for the lost time once he is free.
The story has gone viral, with many people praising this inmate dad for trying his best for his daughter even if he is behind bars. Many are hoping that, whatever his case might be, he will change his way of life once he is out of jail so he can provide a better future for his beloved daughter…
