Remember the baby swap issue at a hospital in Rizal? Couple Marvin and Aphril Sifiata are one step closer to getting their baby back after the other couple, Kim Jasper and Margareth Mulleno, agreed to a DNA test with the baby – and the results came out negative!
It can be recalled that the Sifiata couple sought the help of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS) over what they believed was a baby swap at the hospital where Aphril had given birth to a boy. There were plenty of clues that led the couple to believe they were given the wrong baby.
But the other couple firmly believe that they took home their own child.
“The very first moment na nakita ko si baby, it feels like nakatingin ako sa baby pictures ko. Nakikita ko ‘yung sarili ko sa kanya. Wala kaming naging problem throughout our stay sa hospital,” the Mullenos explained.
“There was this time lang na nagpapalit ako ng spelling sa crib niya, kasi ‘Moleno’ ang nakalagay, dapat ‘Mulleno’. Pagkauwi namin galing sa hospital, Nagpapa-send sila ng picture ni baby at ng nametag niya. Sinend namin.”
The couple did not elaborate on the nametag but possibly had the ‘Mulleno’ tag on the baby when they brought the child back home. The problem is that the other couple, the Sifiatas, had also brought home a child with a ‘Mulleno’ tag.
“After two days, nagpunta sila to explain na baka nagkaroon ng baby switching. Pero there were no feelings of doubt. Alam naming anak namin ‘yung nasa amin. We celebrated our baby’s first month na rin,” the Mullenos added.
When the DNA test results of Aphril and the baby turned out to be negative, with zero chance of maternity, the Mullenos finally agreed to let Margareth and the baby they have undergo a DNA test, too.
Although they firmly believed that the baby is theirs, the Mullenos promised to comply and exchange it with the baby with the Sifiatas, depending on the results of the maternity test.
“We’re very anxious and frustrated. Sobrang bigat kasi sa kalooban nu’ng paghihintay. We prayed for strength and guidance na whatever the truth is, kaya namin siyang tanggapin at pagdaanan,” they said.
“Whatever the results may be, magko-comply kami sa tama. We will continue to provide for the baby, take care of him, and do our part as parents.”
On Sunday, KMJS showed the results of the test for the second family – and it is negative! There is zero chance that Margareth is the baby’s mother.
However, they did not exchange babies yet, though each family was able to hold the other baby when they finally met face to face.
Although the results are both negative for each pair, another set of DNA tests must be done to confirm maternity for the exchanged babies before they can finally be swapped. This will ensure that they will truly be getting the correct babies and rule out the possibility that, hopefully not, another family might also be involved in this baby swap fiasco!
