He is one of the most famous names in the soccer football field, but Cristiano Ronaldo started out with humble beginnings as a poor kid, playing for a local team.
In a recent interview with Piers Morgan on ITV, Ronaldo (formally Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro GOIH ComM), the Portuguese professional footballer recalled how he and his hungry teammates would hang out at the McDonald’s outlet beside the stadium where they would practice for his boyhood club, Sporting Lisbon.

Hungry after the rigorous practice but unable to buy anything because they were poor, the boys would wait for the kindhearted workers to hand them some free burgers. According to Ronaldo, he was around 12 years at the time and could distinctively recall that there were three women who would give them free leftover burgers at that McDonald’s outlet.
“We were a little hungry. We had a McDonald’s next to the stadium, we knocked on the door and asked, ‘Have you got any burgers?” Ronaldo told Morgan.
He could no longer recall all their names nor knew their real names, but he could remember a certain ‘Edna’.
When he became famous as he now plays as a forward for Serie A club Juventus and is the captain of the Portugal national team, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner explained that he tried going back to that McDonald’s outlet to thank the ladies but the store was gone.
He took the opportunity to ask the public in helping him find the three ladies, saying that if they were ever found, he would like to invite the trio to Turin or Lisbon to have dinner with him!
“I asked people in Portugal, they closed the McDonalds, but if this interview can help find them, I would be so happy,” he told Morgan. “I want to invite them to Turin or Lisbon to come have dinner with me because I want to give something back.”
Two Ladies Come Forward
A woman named Paula Leca who claims to be one of the ladies Ronaldo was talking about said that she could not believe he would remember something as ‘small’ as getting free burgers from them.
“They would appear in front of the restaurant and when there were hamburgers left over our manager would give us permission to hand them over,” Leca said. “One of the boys was Cristiano Ronaldo who was perhaps the most timid of them all. This happened almost every night each week.”

According to Leca, the ‘Edna’ that Ronaldo mentioned was her former boss but she lost contact with her.
She added that if the invitation is still open, she would gladly accept and go out for dinner with Ronaldo and her former workmates.
Meanwhile, an Edna Carina Emanuel Caldas also came forward, claiming she is the ‘Edna’ mentioned by Ronaldo.
“I’m no-one really for him to remember me like that. It shows how wonderful he is that he hasn’t forgotten about small things like this from his past,” Caldas said.
We can’t wait for the reunion!
