Jennylyn Mae Casipit, a 17-year-old senior high school student is already in Grade 12. She lives in Brgy. Guiwanon, Guimaras with her grandparents and siblings because their parents are working abroad.

This year, the Department of Education (DepEd) implemented online and blended learning to stop the spread of COVID-19. But because cellular signal is very poor inside their home, Jennylyn had to climb a tree to find better reception!

It would be unsafe and uncomfortable for Jennylyn to be hanging on to a branch on that tree as she attends her online lessons. Thus, her 72-year-old grandpa, Lolo Florentino “Tino” Bernadas, built her the makeshift study area up that tree.

Lolo Florentino and his wife had raised Jennylyn and her siblings ever since they were small kids. But even now that Jennylyn is 17, her grandpa would do everything for her – even if that meant climbing a tree to build her a study area where she can be a bit comfortable while attending her online classes.

Knowing how much sacrifice Lolo Florentino did for them, Jennylyn promised to do better in school and find a good job so she can give them a better life in the future.
