Sara Geurts is a 26-year-old model who originates from Minnesota. She has Dermatosparaxis Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a rare connective tissue disorder that inhibits the body’s ability to produce collagen. It made her skin wrinkles prematurely and made her look beyond her years but this didn’t stop her from doing what she loves to do.
She was only 10 when she discovered her condition and it affected her throughout childhood. When she reached high school, she was very ashamed of her condition that she tried to cover it up so people won’t ask questions about it.
In 2015, after a rough break up, she began modeling and submitted her pictures with her story to the Love Your Lines campaign on Tumblr, a project that praises women’s imperfections. She received massive support from people all over the globe.
From there, she is breaking the stereotypes and challenging beauty standards by becoming a model. Now, taking pride in her unique body, she pursued her career in modeling and her photos have taken all over the internet. In an interview with Pop Sugar, her inspirations were Winnie Harlow, Shaun D. Ross and Melanie Gaydos.
She wrote on her Instagram recently:
“You’re different. People don’t know how to react or how to accept someone who doesn’t follow the crowd… They are not used to someone who doesn’t try to fit in — So instead of bolstering your uniqueness, they’ll try and make you feel like you’re weird or damaged. I’m here to offer some well earned advice : Screw them.”
