Pinay Widow Cries as She Met Pope Francis in UAE, Receives Special Rosary

The sole breadwinner in her family after becoming a widow 13 years ago, Sally Chan Mallari is an overseas Filipino worker (OFW), considered as one of the modern heroes for their sacrifices to give their families a better life.

And this modern hero received one of the best blessings in her life after meeting Pope Francis and receiving his blessing in person. What’s even more amazing is that this Pinay widow also received a special rosary as gift from the pontiff. Wow!

Sally had worked her way up from being a cashier to now being the personal assistant to a dignitary in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Knowing the Pope was staying at St. Regis Abu Dhabi, Sally and her colleagues waited at one of the exits the pontiff will take. Soon, the Pope could be seen walking towards Sally and the rest of the people waiting there.

Unable to contain her excitement, Sally ran to the Pope. But she made headlines around the world as she cried profusely while talking to the pontiff, her emotions running wild as she was too overwhelmed by his presence.

She could be heard thanking the Pope; though many of the words said in that brief encounter were not clear in the video. She later shared in a post on Facebook:

“..I was talking with Pope.. would you like to know what I have told him?

‘Father, please bless this nation, please bless the UAE for bringing you to us..’

Pope Francis: ‘Bless you child.. Bless you.’

UAE deserved to be blessed! I am grateful for making all these possible by the UAE government. On behalf, not just the Filipino community, but all the faithfuls, we will forever be grateful for this once in a lifetime, a truly historic experience! MABUHAY United Arab Emirates!!

People also shared how they felt tears of happiness flowing down their eyes as they saw the Pope in the UAE or even from their TV screens; he seemed to have this effect on people.

But many were truly amazed after Sally revealed that she got a special rosary from the Pope! It was incredible that she was able to meet him face to face, receive his blessing, and even get a gift from him! Wow.
