Pinay DH in Saudi Finds American Husband through Online Games

The life of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) can be quite lonely and difficult, especially if they are not in good terms with their employers but are stuck there for a few years due to the nature of their contract.

This is especially true in Saudi Arabia and other countries in the Middle East where the Pinay domestic helpers have really nowhere to go even on their days off.

A young domestic helper in Saudi found her ‘escape’ in role-playing games (RPGs).

Samra hails from Maguindanao. Though she was weak and afraid of her employers in person, she was a warrior with a strong character in the RPGs. She loved the games so much that there were times when she no longer sleeps because she enjoys playing. This helped her cope with the difficult life in Saudi.

One day, Samra defeated a guy, a professional gamer who had spent many years actually winning in all the RPGs he’s played. The defeat left an intriguing mark on Triston Wallin from Las Vegas, Nevada; especially because it was a girl who defeated him!

He admired the girl behind the character and messaged her, wanting to get to know her better. The two would soon develop romance on the game, even though they still have not seen each other in reality.

But Triston would fall deeply in love with Samra when she finally got the courage to share her real name and Facebook profile with him. But the then-21-year-old Samra was shocked to see that the guy she had fallen in love with on the game was actually just a young kid (or so she thought)!

At the time, Triston was already 19 but he looks like a 15-year-old kid. He eventually managed to convince Samra that he was not a kid and that he was so in love with her! On his birthday, she finally agreed to become his girlfriend.

A gamer since he was 3 years old, Triston knew he found his soulmate in fellow gamer Samra. On her birthday, it was his turn to surprise her with a long-distance proposal! She said, “yes”.

Months later, Triston would make his way to the Philippines after Samra’s contract ended in Saudi. At the airport, he proposed to her again. It was their first meeting – and it was truly memorable!

Because Samra is a Muslim, Triston converted to Islam to prove that he truly loved her and that he was willing to go through the traditions of her faith to marry her. He even followed the tradition of giving the family a dowry before they got married.

Days after he arrived in the Philippines, the two got married in a Muslim ceremony. This was followed by a modern wedding.

A lot of netizens could not get over the fact that these two had met while playing online games. Many joked that they are still single even though they had been playing games for many years! Others said they have done everything to find their soulmate, except playing online games – that’s something they would try ASAP. LOL.
