Chan Hao Shan is a graduating student from Taylor University taking up Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. At 19 years of age, she is set to become Malaysia’s youngest doctor.
As a kid, Chan has developed a deep passion for reading. In fact, there is a huge library in their house where most of the books were personally chosen by Chan when she was still a child. A fast reader, the Harry Potter series and The Hunger Games were among her favorite books.
Chan lost her mother to breast cancer when she was just 8 years old and this was also the time when she took interest in discovering how the human body works.
Normal schooling did not work for Chan as she was way smarter than most kids in her age range. She spent three years at a Chinese primary school in Kuala Lumpur, then shifted to an international school where she completed her remaining primary and secondary school syllabus.
The then 13-year-old Chan was able to finish in 1 year what would normally take five years to complete.
She enrolled in the Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT) in a private college and finished it within a year, making her the youngest graduate during the graduation ceremonies.
Chao is now looking forward to her medical internship and her graduation. However, this young lady’s quest for knowledge will not stop at graduation, as she plans to pursue further studies to become a specialist.
