No matter how poor or rich our parents might have been, know for certain that they only want to give the best for the children.
“I am proud that my father is a pedicab driver. And indeed, he’s the true MAGNA CUM LAUDE,” Sandra Estefani Ramos of Magarao, Camarines Sur proudly wrote in a Facebook post that has gone viral.
Sandra recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from her course of Bachelor of Secondary Education, Major in Technology and Livelihood Education at Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology (BISCAST).
But the young lady did not just go viral because she graduated with Latin honors because hundreds of graduates around the Philippines have also done the same, year after year. What made her story extra special is that she is proud of her father, a padyak (pedicab) driver who sends her to school.
While some students might feel a bit embarrassed that their parents don’t have ‘good jobs’, Sandra was quite proud of her father and enjoys the privilege each time he brings her to school in their padyak.
Knowing they don’t have a lot of money, Sandra did her best to do well in her studies so she could graduate and give her family a better life. Her hard work and determination paid off as she completes her college education with Latin honors.
At first she kept her Magna Cum Laude honor as a secret from her parents but word soon got out and they cried after learning about this victory.
On her graduation day, the young woman posed for photos with her dad beside their padyak – and he even took her for a spin. Both were proud of each other! What a wonderful family.
“Pa, please bring your Magna Cum Laude to school using our ‘padyak’,” Sandra posted on her Facebook account, saying her father was the true Magna Cum Laude for everything he had done for the family…
