A 60-year-old man from Ghaziabad, India has allegedly shot his wife dead over late dinner.
Rinku, the 32-year-old son of the accused, Ashok Kumar, stated that his father came home drunk at around 9:00 P.M. and asked his mother, Sunaina, for dinner at around 11:00 P.M.
A quarrel broke out between the two as Sunaina refused to immediately serve the dinner, as she wanted to talk to Ashok about his drinking habits first.
The son added that his father got infuriated because of the delay of his meal, so he whipped out a gun and threatened his mother with it. Rinku, along with his wife and another brother, tried to intervene but their father quickly opened fire, and a bullet hit their mother on her head, and she collapsed right after.
The 55-year-old Sunaina was brought to the hospital but, unfortunately, died upon arrival.
Ashok has confessed to the shooting as soon as he was arrested and said that he deeply regrets what he has done.
Domestic violence is prevalent in India because of the society seemed to accepted it and had gone silent about it. A family survey conducted by the government showed that more than 54 percent of men and 51 percent of women respondents said that it is alright for a man to beat his wife if she disrespects her in-laws, neglects her home or family, or as trivial as putting less or more salt to the food.
