‘Haunted’ Japanese Dolls Bring Fear to Two Households in Metro Manila

Many dolls are so beautiful that they appeal even to adults, becoming part of their collection instead of just being a toy for young girls. But with so many stories and movies about scary dolls, some people believe that some of these dolls are really haunted!

A household in Cubao got the fright of their lives when the beautiful doll they bought at a thrift shop appeared to be haunted.

Coco Salvacion immediately fell in love with the Hagoita Doll he found at a thrift shop. It sold for Php3,500 but he loved it so much that he asked help from his friends so he could buy the doll and bring it home.

He loved the doll and even called it ‘Ganda’ (Beautiful), saying that he believes it will bring him good luck. Indeed, Coco said that the doll immediately gave him good luck; his transactions were smoother, and he got new clients.

Turning the doll’s case and playing its music became something that Coco looked forward to every day.

But his friend who lives in the house with him thought there was something odd with the doll. While he helped bring the doll to their house, Jerome Flores Villanueva would soon think it was a bad choice.

At around 2 or 3 o’clock every day, he would notice that the doll’s case would play the music even if no one turned the button. Moreover, things would move on their own inside the house. For example, one shoe would remain on its place at the stairs but its pair would be at some other part of the house. The key to the car and the condo would be gone for days, only to ‘appear’ at some odd location.

Thinking that the doll was haunted, Jerome told Coco to get rid of it. When his friend refused, Jerome ended up destroying the doll case. Feeling remorseful about 10 minutes later, he went to the trash bin to bring the doll back but was surprised to find that the doll was gone – yet the rest of the case was in the trash bin, still intact…

But Jerome and Coco were not the only ones who experienced strange incidents with their doll… Check out this feature story:
