He started as technician and worked his way up to become one of the company’s top engineers, but Engr. Jethroefel Esposo Ramboyong did not keep his success to himself. Instead, he used his position and knowledge to help other Filipinos also find their own success in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Isn’t that impressive?
Ramboyong’s success story began in 1998 when he was hired as technician by Etisalat, a multinational Emirati based telecommunications services provider operating in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.
As technician, he did all the groundwork on the field for Etisalat, but he was able to work his way up until he became a full-fledged telecommunications engineer for the company.
Finding his own success in the UAE made Ramboyong think about the others who also needed to find jobs and their own success as well. So, instead of keeping his success to himself, he decided to help other Filipinos also find jobs in the UAE.
Understanding that it is not easy for many people to cope with being in a foreign land for the first time, Ramboyong founded the Filipino Electronics and Communications Engineers Association (FECEA) with the aim of providing a community for Filipino engineers in their field. This was back in 2008, 10 years after he arrived in the UAE.
The organization would soon become the UAE chapter of the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP). The organization is not just a community where these engineers can find friends and feel less homesick, it also helps them find jobs and improve their competency levels.
“We have extended support to those looking for jobs. We also help them upgrade their professional competency levels through conducting seminars and trainings, and support them in applying for professional ECE certifications, Asean Engineering Registry, among others,” Ramboyong shared.
Through IECEP-UAE, Ramboyong has helped over 400 engineers find jobs in the UAE.
Looked up to by the Filipino community in the Middle East, he was chosen as one of the recipients of the “2018 Bagong Bayani Award”, a prestigious award given to outstanding overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) for their exemplary contributions to the community.
He was also awarded as the 2018 Outstanding Professional of the Year in the field of Electronics Engineering by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
