At 38, Former NBA Superstar Yao Ming Earns College Degree

Education knows no boundaries. It does not look at a person’s circumstances, financial capacity, or even age. As long as the person himself has the passion and the commitment to earn it, he will have it.

Yao Ming used to play Center for the Houston Rockets. With a career average of 19.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game, he was among the NBA Superstars during his time. Due to several foot and ankle injuries, he had to retire from playing basketball in 2011 at the young age of 31.

However, that was not the end of the line for the former star basketball player. After he announced his retirement, he enrolled as a student in the Antai College of Economics and Management of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China.

He was very eager to finish his studies and earn a degree, just like what he promised his parents way back before he became a professional basketball player.

However, things were not as easy as it may seem. For a couple of times, he wanted to quit school. However, he pushed himself, and though it took him seven years to finish his course, he was finally able to earn his Economics degree.

Speaking at the convocation ceremony, Yao Ming said that one should try to combine his future with the future of the society because that is how he will be able to find larger space for himself.
