A former school teacher turned makeup artist, Mimi Choi’s Instagram posts have been making rounds in the social media recently, as netizens were amazed by the stunningly creative optical illusions which she did on herself using makeup.
The 31-year-old lady from Vancouver, Canada has been doing make up for three years now. She learned her craft by attending classes at Blanche Macdonald, a local beauty school.
Her creation almost looked like they were Photoshopped, but she did it all by herself.
According to Mimi, she draws inspiration from her surroundings, photography, paintings, and emotions. She tries not to look at the works of other makeup artists and that she challenges herself to produce original and unique works.
The makeup artist spends long hours in creating her looks using drugstore makeup and a variety of brushes. There was even a time when the look she was gunning for took too long to build that she had to take a nap in the middle of the makeup session.
‘My main goal each time I do a new look is to beat myself from yesterday because I am the biggest critic and competition to myself. It’s gotten really hard to impress myself these days, but it motivates me to keep trying and doing better,” Mimi said.
Among her viral works are the transformation of her hand into a sushi and the creation of multiple eyes and lips into her face.
